Great Ways to Get Out & Exercise This Summer

The warm weather has stuck around, and summer is just around the corner. You’ve heard the phrase “summer bod” and, if you’re like the team at SLMTO, you are always working on getting in shape. Summer just so happens to be one of our favorite times to spend some time exercising, primarily because there are countless ways to get some physical activity while enjoying the warm weather and everything else that summer weather has to offer.  

In today’s blog, we are going to talk about a few of our favorite ways to get out of the house and exercise. Hopefully, these ideas help spike your motivation and get you outside and exercising.

Swimming

One of our favorite forms of exercise to enjoy during the summer is swimming. Of course, you can partake in this form of exercise year round, but there’s something nice about getting a few laps in while the sun is rising, or even when it’s at its highest.  One of the reasons this is such an excellent option for exercising is because it’s easy on the joints and you can burn so many calories in a short amount of time.

Running

Another form of exercise that is totally doable year round is running, but it’s absolutely amazing to do so during the summer. There are countless running trails that give you the chance to get a mile or two in, while also taking some time to slow down and enjoy the beautiful scenery that mother nature has to offer. If you are an avid runner, consider making a list of running paths near your home and cross them off over the summer.

Hiking

If you’re looking for a form of exercise that is less intense and incredibly enjoyable, hiking is something you should consider. While this is something that you can enjoy year round, it’s definitely more enjoyable to do during the summer. Depending on where you live and what type of trails you’re interested in exploring, there are likely a handful of great hikes within an hour drive of your home. The best part about hiking is that there are different hikes based on experience and the length of the hike, so you can find something for everyone.

Paddle Boarding

One of the less conventional forms of exercise that we can all enjoy during the summer is paddle boarding. While this is frequently viewed as a pastime during the summer, it is definitely a workout! Aside from having to paddle your way through the water, you are engaging your core to maintain your balance. Sometimes, the number of muscles that you’re working can be surprising and unknown until the day after, making it an even better way to workout and enjoy yourself this summer.

Pickup Games

Team sports are always a great way to get active with your friends or family. During the warmer months of the year, you can find tons of pickup games that allow you to enjoy your favorite sports with your favorite people. You’d be surprised how much a game of basketball or soccer can impact your health. Not only are you working a variety of muscles, but your body is moving around, giving you the cardio that so many struggle to fit into their workouts.
