How To Take Care Of Your Vibrant Color Contacts
Contacts are soft plastic lenses that go onto your eyes. Because eyes can easily become irritated or infected, it is vitally important to take good care of your contacts and use the best practices when it comes to cleaning and storing them.
At SLMTO, our customers love the Vibrant Color Contacts that we offer. Our goal is for people to be able to wear their contacts over and over again without any irritation or complications, which is why we are dedicating today’s blog to proper contact care!
How To Care For Your Colored Contacts
Keep It Clean
Anything that comes into contact with your contact lenses (pardon the double use of the word ‘contact’) should be sanitary. This includes your fingers, your contact lens case, your saline solution, and any tools you use to insert or remove your contacts.
Before putting in your contacts, wash your hands with soap and warm water. Some people prefer to open their contact lens case before washing their hands to ensure any germs on the outside of the case do not get transferred to your eyes.
Dry your hands with a clean, lint-free towel. The last thing you want is to get little towel fuzzies in your eyes!
Refresh The Solution
Contact solution is more than just saltwater. It’s a chemical solution that usually includes saline (salt and water), a preservative, and a buffering agent to help gently clean the contacts. While it can disinfect contacts, it’s not the same as using a germ-killer like bleach or hand sanitizer. That means that while contact solution can keep your Vibrant Color Contacts clean, it’s not foolproof and needs to be refreshed every time you put your contacts back in the case.
When taking out your contacts, dump out the excess contact solution from your case and rinse it with clean solution. Thoroughly wash and dry your hands, remove your contacts, rinse them with contact solution, and place them in the case with brand new contact solution.
Know Your Eyes
Some people have sensitive eyes that do not react well to prescription or cosmetic contact lenses. If your eyes burn or become red and irritated, remove your contacts immediately. If the burning continues, contact your eye doctor. Sometimes allergies can affect the way contacts feel, so just because they make your eyes itch in spring doesn’t necessarily mean you will never be able to wear them.
Never, Ever, Ever Sleep In Your Contacts
If you’ve ever fallen asleep with your contacts in, you know how bad it can dry out your eyes. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous. Wearing contacts overnight can reduce the amount of oxygen available to your eyes. This can trigger inflammation of the cornea which can cause irreversible damage. You might even get ulcers on your eyes or contract conjunctivitis (pink eye) if an infection occurs.
Trying to take your contacts out after sleeping in them can be nearly impossible. Your eyes may become so dry that the contact cannot slip off of your eye. This can result in a trip to the eye doctor to have a professional remove the lens, and nobody wants that.
